Boy and a Tree

Boy and Tree
Sometimes I'll do a study or concept piece like this for project ideas, or just to loosen up a little.

They don't get completed most of the time. Once an idea jells in my mind, that may be all I need to start the finished piece of work. I don't throw them away because some of them do get completed later. The rest end up in a box.

These studies can help you discover new ways of doing mundane routines you've adapted over time. They can also give your work back some of the energy that was lost along the way, even if you don't use the art for future works, they still have personal value to your development as an artist.

If we tighten up our process too much, it squeezes the art right out of the end results. Doing studies will allow a person to relax the rule-based mindset, and just let it happen. We can make mistakes and not be concerned.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all...(oh, I forgot to be politically correct), "Seasons Greetings", is everybody OK with that?

I don't think anybody likes this except my good friend Liz. So I made her a Christmas card of the grumpy ole' pyro-snowman. She understands my twisted view of life.

Old man Froginstein

old man Froginstein
Ink drawing from a sketchbook. I may do a watercolor wash over this? There's a story to go along with this character, you can read it here: "Not in my back yard".

Frazzle Bird

This is one of my Frazzle Birds. Life can push these fowl to the breaking point at times.

It may be that viewers don't like this kind of spazzed out bird, but I'll post a few more as time permits just to see if that's true.

Fried Robot

Fried Robot
This robot has a problem. Somebody set off a pulse-wave that cooked his circuits.

Looks like I have a lot of ink drawings piling up that need color.

Another pen and ink drawing that will need some color later.

Tree idea

Since I'm on a row with trees, I found this one too. It's a little different, so what do you think about the style?

Owl with Toad Stools
I had to move snack food off the top of my scanner to get this one posted. A scan bed can make a nice little table in a pinch.

This Owl is from one of the sketch books laying around my cramped studio. Sometimes I find some pieces that haven't been painted hiding in these old pads. So, I'll put it with the rest that need color.

Another Tree

Another Tree
This tree will get some Watercolor when I go into the painting mode. For those who are not sure what medium is used here, it's pen and ink.
I like doing trees with ink and sometimes pencil.

I'm also thinking about getting some more of the Ph.Martin Bombay inks with all 24 colors in order to draw stuff like this in various tones of Sepia and Browns.
What do you think?

The helps house

The helps house
Well, it's out of proportion somewhat, and kinda funny I guess. Even so, it has a bit of character.

I can see where the help would have a junky house like this, while the masters live in the big nice home on a hill.

It's up to you to build your own narrative around this setting. Maybe if enough pressure was put on me from popular demand, I would write a story myself. I will continue to be lazy till shamed into action though.
